Unfair Boxing

Independent Boxing Mini-game with External Physical Sensors

PCOM | Interactive Game

The project is a two-player boxing game featuring differentiated punching power between fighters of different genders. It utilizes physical pressure sensors to collect pressure exerted by players as their in-game “boxing strength”, which is further influenced by internal game parameters. These parameters create an imbalance which reflects real-world scenarios of social inequity, where one gender usually has to exert more effort to achieve the same outcome.

Motivation

Gender-based unfairness is pervasive, as specific social contexts often grant advantages to one gender over the other. While males frequently benefit more in areas such as the workplace, there do exist instances where females act more dominantly, such as in the marriage market. However, a lack of awareness and understanding of these imbalances often causes misunderstanding, antagonism, and discrimination between genders, which highlights the need for greater empathy and insights into this problem.

Objective

The project aims to highlight gender-based inequalities in daily life, raise awareness of the factors contributing to biased social norms, and foster empathy among participants of different genders by encouraging them to view the situations from the perspective of the opposite gender.
